Windows 7

What is Windows 7?

Windows 7 is Microsofts up coming OS (Operating System). Windows 7 system requirements have been lowered compared to Windows Vista. Go to Microsoft's Windows 7 section to see if your computer meets the minimum reqirements. The interface seems a bit easier and not as cluttered as Vista. The new desktop closely resembles Linux distrobutions an a lot of ways.

For those that are unsure Microsoft is still offering free use of Windows 7 RC (Release Canidate). It is actually the Ultimate version of Win 7 and it will operate fully until June 1, 2010. Go to Microsoft's site for information on how to download it.

Should I upgrade if I'm runing Vista now?

There are a number of factors to consider when asking this question. First, our you 100% happy with Vista? If Vista runs all of your programs and you are happy with the performance you don't really need to upgrade. Especially now that the Microsoft Windows 7 upgrade limited time pricing (July 11th.) is passed, the cost now (Win 7 upgrade: Premium $119 and Professional $199 full: Premium $199 and Professional $299) might not be with moving to Win 7 from Vista. If you were able to take advantage of the limited time price, I think it deffinately is worth switching to Win 7.

For those running Windows XP or earlier:

For the many of you still running Windows XP, ME, 98, and 95 it might be time to move to Windows 7. Just remember to check the system requirements before you purchase Win 7. Your system might not support it.

Also, if you are running XP you probably have programs designed for XP. If that’s the case you might consider purchasing Win 7 Professional since it offers XP mode (essentially a virtual XP). Win 7 Premium does not offer XP mode, so be prepared to replace or retire some of your older software. Soon you'll be able to use Microsoft's compatibility program to test your system. This should be able to tell you if your computer will be able to run Win 7 and if there are compatibility issues with other software.

Also, Windows XP’s support from Microsoft is being phased out and earlier versions are no longer being supported by Microsoft. That means that patches and fixes are no longer being worked on for the Operating Systems themselves.
Now for the good and bad news.
Good news: XP users qualify for the upgrade version of Win 7.
Bad news:   Windows ME and earlier must buy the full version of Win 7.
